I took my troubles down to Madame Ruth
You know that gypsy with the gold-capped tooth
She's got a pad down on Thirty-Fourth and Vine
Sellin' little bottles of Love Potion Number Nine

난 나의 고민거리를 가지고 루 아줌마한테 갔지요
아시다시피, 금이빨을 한 집시 아줌마한테.
그 아줌마는 34번가와 Vine거리사이에 집이 있어요
작은 병에 든 사랑의 묘약을 팔고 있죠

I told her that I was a flop with chics
I've been this way since 1956
She looked at my palm and she made a magic sign
She said "What you need is Love Potion Number Nine"

아줌마에게 말했어요 난 여자에게 채이기만 한다고 말했죠
1956년 이래 계속 그렇다고
그녀는 내 손바닥을 보더니 이상한 주문을 외었어요
그리고 말하더군요. "자네가 필요한 건 사랑의 묘약 제9번이야"

 

She bent down and turned around and gave me a wink
She said "I'm gonna make it up right here in the sink"
It smelled like turpentine, it looked like Indian ink
I held my nose, I closed my eyes, I took a drink

아줌만 허리를 구부리고 돌아보면서 내게 윙크를 하더군요
아줌만 '바로 여기 싱크대에서 그 약을 만들어주겠다'고 했어요
그건 송진냄새가 나고 모양은 먹물같았어요
난 코를 막고 눈을 감았죠 (그라고는 팍 마셔 버렸어요)

근디 '34번가와 Vine가' 사이에서 한 경찰한테 키스를 했을 때
그 경찰은 나의 그 사랑의 묘약 제9번병을 깨 버렸어요
